Letter from the Chairman

Dear Old Grammarians,

I thought I would take this opportunity to let you know how much your continued support is appreciated by your committee. You may know that this year is the 80th anniversary of the formation of the association. It was formed in September 1924 and we have continued with varying numbers ever since. I have myself been Chairman for over 30 years and I know that some committee members have served even longer. I would like to thank all committee members particularly our secretaries  and all former Treasurers and Secretaries and currently Mary Thomas (nee Power) and Sylvia Harris (nee Copeland) ,our treasurer Sue Ansell not forgetting our "senior" committee member Pauline Seaton (nee Rose). My special thanks to our President Dr Peter Thompson for his unfailing encouragement and advice over many years. And finally to you the members, please keep your membership renewed, keep attending our reunions in Spring and Autumn and thank you for the support which makes our work so worthwhile.

Colin Graham,Chairman (43-51)

Saturday 9 OCTOBER 2004
Teigmouth Community College, Exeter Road - NEW ARTS CENTRE

Jean POTTER (nee Palmer) (former Chairman of Governors at the college) writes to say that the magnificent new Arts Centre, recently opened on the site of the old Biology Lab, Boys’ playground, Men’s Staff Room  and incorporating the old Gym, will be open to visitors between 2 and 4pm.  If you are coming for the Reunion Dinner at the Teignmouth Golf Club that evening or not, why not come earlier and see for yourself what has been done at the old school site. If you hope to come please ring Jean on 01626 773856 beforehand so that she has some idea of the likely number. The school website shows some pictures of the opening.  This is a marvellous opportunity to walk around the old school, look back fondly and at the same time to look forward optimistically  to the teaching facilities of the future. Thank you Jean for arranging this.

We always need new Committee members;  the job of a Committee Member is not arduous, 3-4 evening meetings a year, held in Teignmouth, but new blood ensures the future of the Association.  Please contact any of your Committee if you are interested.

Mary Thomas (nee Power, 48-54) Membership Secretary
